Mandatory Car Insurance

Since 1930 when the UK Government of that time decreed it Car Insurance is totally mandatory for anyone driving a vehicle on a public road.  You will also find that most Countries in the world have now passed similar laws so be careful if you intend travelling abroad that you have the relevant mandatory insurance for the country you are visiting.  The main reason for bringing in the mandatory law was that certain devious individuals would drive without insurance and were able to avoid any responsibility whatsoever for any damage to the property of others.

The standard types of mandatory car insurance for car (ביטוח חובה לרכב) drivers are fully Comprehensive and Third Party only coverage.  There is no way that you can be excused from purchasing one or other of these insurances.  Whichever coverage you decide upon you can be safe in the knowledge that subject to that policy’s terms and conditions you will have protection against repairs to vehicles and personal property.

In recent times the advent of the ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) has enabled the authorities to identify uninsured cars within minutes of the car passing the camera or one of the police cars fitted with this device.  Consequently those without the mandatory car insurance can be bought to justice so much quicker.
