Scotland has many castles for visitor to come and experience. If you take a tour, you will learn about the history and other stories that are based on that castle. One of the most perfectly preserved castles in Scotland is the Craigmillar. It still maintains the medieval stronghold that can visitor can see today.

It was the early part of the 15th century that the building of this castle began. Today, it is surrounded by fine gardens and pastureland and remains a comfortable residence. This castle in part of the history of the city of Edinburgh and also is part of the story of Mary Queen of Scots. When Rizzio was murdered, it was here that she fled and it was here that the murder was planned for Lord Darneley who was Mary’s husband at the time.

Today, many people choose to get married in this castle which takes place in the Great Hall. This hall can hold sixty people so these wedding are not large events. If you choose not to take public transportation to this castle, you need only to contact Edinburgh car rental to get your own transportation for the day. It is a great way to spend the day with friends or family as everyone will enjoy it.

As all of us consumers do our best to save every extra penny on purchases many of us wonder what has happened to the many cashback promotions a lot of retailers would offer? Sure we can clip coupons, mail in for cash rebates, and scour the Internet for discount codes, but when it comes to major purchases our only option is for a major reduction or liquidation sale. It was only a few years ago when appliance, electronic, and car retailers, to name a few, were continually offering a cashback program of some sort.

By doing this most would buy items on a whim even if they didn’t need them at the time. Then again the economy had not entered it economic downward spiral, nowadays consumers it lean on the government to provide discounts, rebates or extra savings. Consumers truly need to be more in tune in what government programs have to offer as the economy continues to pull out of the recession the government is trying ever so hard to put cash flow back in the pockets the consumer. If spending starts to increase then people start to have confidence in the economy and the ball starts rolling to get things moving again.

Rewards and perks make getting department store and gas credit cards very attractive to many consumers. It’s very tempting to use these same cards to spend more than you should. If you’re getting that department store card just so you can buy that pretty designer knock-off dress, think again.

Department store and gas credit cards are actually a good way to start fixing a damaged credit history or for starting out. It’s usually a lot easier to be approved for these cards, even if your credit standing is not too good. However, keep in mind that you’re getting these cards to repair your credit standing – if you overspend or use the cards wrongly, you’ll be right back where you started or even worse off.

Stick to One or Two. You really should not have more than just one or two of these cards. Too many debts on too many open cards will again negatively impact your credit report. Once you’ve managed to bring your credit standing back in good order, you may want to consider canceling these cards and go back to a regular bank-issued credit card with a lower interest rate to make your purchases. Consider the rewards and perks that you have with these cards and figure out which of these you can really use to your best advantage. For example, some gas cards offer discounts for travel, hotels, car rentals, insurance and even help you get your car repaired in case it breaks down while you’re on the road.

Pay the Balance Off On Time and In Full. Gas and department store credit cards usually have a higher interest rate and finance charges than regular bank-issued cards. It’s not worth it to be paying off the interest for a pair of shoes that you originally charged for $100 and it defeats the purpose of rebuilding your credit history if you just end up incurring more debt. Pay it off, pay it in full and on time and if you do have a balance owing, don’t charge any more until you’ve cleared the debt.

Avoid the Rewards Trap. These cards love to offer rewards such as gift certificates or even cash if you spend a certain amount. If you’re spending more than what you can actually afford to pay back, you negate the purpose of the rewards. Instead, know when you can use the rewards being offered to your best advantage such as holiday promotions and discounts without falling into the trap of overspending.

Stay Below Your Credit Limit. For regular credit cards, experts advise staying below 30%-50% of your credit limit.  For department store and gas credit cards, it’s better to stay below 20% of your given limit. The higher the balance, the lower your credit score and again, the high interest rates for these cards make it very difficult to pay them off. Check that impulse to buy and buy and spend wisely.

Think of your gas and department store cards as a way to improve your credit history as you make your credit score rise every time you make a payment in full and on time. Your chances of getting approved for a major credit card, mortgage or car loan will definitely be better as you rebuild your credit history.

Should You Choose Points or Cash Back For Your Rewards Card?

Determining your spending behavior is one of the chief ways to determine if you should choose a point card or a rewards card that offers cash back. There are many differences between the cash back rewards credit cards and those that offer points as a reward system. Of course, there are advantages and disadvantages to choosing each of these options.

Choosing a cash back rewards credit card will enable the card holder to get cash back rewards from the money that is spent using the credit card. There are two ways that the money that has been earned from rewards is applied to the account. The first way the rewards money is allocated towards the account is when the money is used towards the balance; the second method allows the consumer to receive a check for the funds which are available from cash back earnings.

Rewards points can be used to earn you free vacations and points that can be redeemed for a variety of items. These points can often be transferred to gain you points in another one of your favorite programs or even be transferred to cash back rewards.

Find a versatile rewards system to ensure that you are indeed making the most of your credit card spending habits.

Regardless of the points system you choose, whether you choose points or cash back – be sure to be aware of the limits that are imposed on these types of accounts. It is important to know which limits are imposed regarding how many miles can be collected, or how many miles can be redeemed in a certain time period.
